Sometimes tattling is good. Please look at this excellent article by a child psychologist: http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0109/hirschhorn_stupid_parenting_advice.php3

I am a supporter of tattling: why? Because I am of the belief that all lies and secrets no matter how small are damaging and hurtful. This is one of the things several people do not like about me as well. You see, I rarely speak, (I stopped talking at age 14 after witnessing the murder of my best friend, and have barely spoken a full sentence in the 17 years since) but when I do, watch out, because I will tell you exactly what I think about you. I do not believe in lies on any level, so I am not going to say something nice just to sound friendly or to avoid hurting your feelings. Likewise if I know you are doing something wrong, I will not think twice about reporting you to the proper authorities. The truth hurts, get used to it. If you have something to hide, than you should be told on.

It's called gossip. Adults do it all the time.

Kids are allright, you just have to train them ;0)

People handle problems in age appropriate ways. When you are young and having issues with someone or something, the best way to handle it is to get an adult.

They are just naturally self-centered..........they'll grow out of it when they are corrupted.

Tattling is a child's way of dealing with issues. Also, tattling can be a form of gossip or a way to get another child in trouble if they are bothering them. Children don't mean to be annoying about it, it's just a part of growing up.

I believe kids that tattle are the ones that have high self esteem and the most confidence. The ones that stay quiet and don't tell don't feel comfortable enough to tell. I think it is very healthy for kids to feel that it is ok to tell and I encourage my children to always tell when something happens in there presence that is not right. Sorry you don't like it, but it is best if you don't have any kids and it shouldn't be a problem for you.

To seek favor in an adult's eyes, because they think it's the right thing to do, to get even.
