In some areas of the Southern United States, shaving still occurs. In the vast majority of hospitals, this antiquated practice has been discarded and for good reason. It does nothing to prevent infection or create a more sterile birth field, and it can actually contribute to infection, because shaving can cause microscopic nicks to the skin that can harber bacteria. If you live in an area where this practice still goes, you do not need to submit to it. Every patient has the right to refuse any procedure.

I have given birth to two children and both times no shaving. I don't think they do it any more unless they need to do a c-section or some sort of surgery. Also in case you are wondering they don't do enama's anymore. Hope this helps.
