  • Usually electronic diagnostics are ran when you are experiencing problems with engine, transmission, anti lock brakes, traction control, anti roll over technology, or any other computer controlled system on your vehicle, which is basically everything now days including heating and a/c-airbag system, tire pressure monitoring systems, even 4 wheel drive systems...a hand held diagnostic reader is hooked up and then will tell you what the problem is that triggered the code by telling you which major component (engine trans abs ect.) what sub system of major component (solenoid, sensor, motor)-and how it failed..shorted, open, out of specs-then the mechanic has to troubleshoot that component and circuits and verify the computer is showing correct information which eliminates parts replacing when lets say there is a wire short and not a component failure..hope this helps..Jasper
