  • Sometimes yes. I saw a great HBO movie that I borrowed from my local library two weeks ago. It was called“The Gathering Storm” the HBO production about the period just before WWII in England. With a strong cast, Albert Finney as Winston Churchill, and Vanessa Redgrave as Clemmie Churchill, what is not to like? It won two Golden Globes. It was a splendid adaptation from Mr. Churchill's own writings. Usually I find HBO productions too rough for my viewing. They are not “rated” by mtion picture standards, and contain content that I will not view.
  • I do. Deadwood, The Sopranos and Rome (last but DEFINITELY not least, that one is fantastic) are three of the best shows I've ever seen, vulgarity, obscenity, and violence aside, they are incredible. A lot of shows that contain so much of the aforementioned qualities rely solely on the violence and swearing to make the show, but those shows simply use them to enhance the stories and the realness (is that even a word? lol) of the plots. I've also found that Showtime has some awesome shows--Dexter and Weeds are excellent. I highly reccomend all of the ones I've mentioned, but only if you can handle strong sexual content, language, violence, etc.
  • Well I think they both stink, for a 110.00 bill a month for satellite there should always be something worthy of my time but so often there is nothing worth watching or watching "again" Network TV is the worst a little show to go with all those commercials
  • Traditional networks dont have the kind of funds that HBO has. You have to pay just to get the channel which mean they have the income to create and produce television show that are of much higher caliber and not to meantion unrestricted from censorship. I would love NBC or ABC to have show like the Soporanos or Deadwood but its just not going to happen.
  • Assuming that you are correct about budget, I think that it is possible to produce a quality show without a huge budget. Certainly we have seen that in film low budget, independent productions can outshine big budget Hollywood extravaganzas. Anyone who saw "Little Mary Sunshine" can attest to that. Often, it's the writing that makes a show become a work of art. Does, for instance, "Ugly Betty" show evidence of quality? I'd vote "yes," and that's what the networks should aim for. It's possible. -- I am sure that I am not the only man who sees art in DEADWOOD who also sees something special in UGLY BETTY. I gave you points because I think that you thought about your answer, although I don't agree with you....Stronghart
  • you're not the only who thinks HBO is tops and who finds a place in his heart for Ugly Betty.
  • I think some shows are quite good on HBO. However, I also think some of the shows push the "Good Taste" envelope way too far for my tastes. However, I just don't watch those shows.
