I would use a blender because my blender is easier to clean than my food processor. If you wanted anything less than a "smooth cream" -- I'd go with the food processor.

The term "Soup Nazis" (http://tinyurl.com/2384zy) is highly offensive. ----- "Is it better to use a food processor or a blender to make a smooth cream of mushroom soup?" I would go for the blender. :)

I think it would depend on your volume. If you only have a bit, use the blender. If you have a fair amount, use the food processor. I think that you would get better results with either volume when using the food processor - I have found they work very well for a smooth mixture.

I think a stick blender works the best. FOod processors are tricky with that hole in the middle and blander involve too much moving the soup from this place to that container to this bowl. Just keep it in the pot and whirr away.

I have found that an immersion blender is the best. I find that I have much better control over the consistency, and it's so much easier to manage and clean up! Failing that, I'd use the blender.

I use one of those Stick wizzes and then if its still lumpy I sieve it. But I like chunky bits of mushroom so I usually add some but then its not cream of mushroom soup is it?? Oh well sigh..............
