  • That is how I entered the construction trade. I simply went out and applied for every carpenter position listed in the newspaper. Practical experience usually far surpasses what you can learn from the so called "trade schools" unless you are looking for a union position that requires you to have that piece of paper. I have now been a carpenter for 28 years, and make more money than some of my "schooled" counterparts.
  • You answered your first question by the asking of the second question. Many plumbers are willing to hire an energetic and capable helper. Those helpers can learn, and in likely less time than the schooling, gain a working knowledge of the ins and outs of the trade. Plus, the contacts and networking from being a part of a good and cohesive team can benefit you years later. You already know the best path, now go out and get it.
