The Allman Brothers Band. They jammed all night, like almost 4 hours.

Billy Joel is easily the best performer I have ever seen. He plays to the whole arena. We had terrible seats but he seem to recognize this and adjusted for it.

Surprisingly, James Taylor and David Bowie over the past three years.
They can still sing beautifully and are great showmen.

For years I would have said Pink Floyd or Alan Jackson (diverse, huh?)

Then, last summer, I saw Tom Petty live and it changed everything.

He totally CONNECTS with his audience and we (the audience) connected with each other. A mutual admiration society. You could tell he loves performing. The Heartbreakers were great. It was an amazing mix of people from their 60's down through teenagers, all getting along. And HE ROCKED. (Not to mention that Stevie Nicks showed up unannounced).

Too Many because i go to all the shows with collections of 60s bands and 70s and those older guys really know how to get an audience dancingin and out of their seats.

    The Who, probably.
Classical: probably the young 19 year-old Greek pianist, back in the late 1980's; currently, have forgotten his name.
I've heard my 10 year-old son produce a pretty mean Etude Opus 10 # 12, by Chpin, though.
We did a pretty mean job of that piece!

I admit to not having been to more than four concerts in my entire life but the best one for me out of those four was The Dave Matthews Band when they played in Philly a few years back. Incredible!!

The Clash in 1982 and the Pixies in 1990. In both cases, sheer talent that made the hairs stand up on the back of the neck.

Although I am less keen on their music, Bruce Springsteen and Van Morrison are excellent live performers for the energy and commitment they put into their music.

TheKnife V2.1 - Grandiose and Obnoxious

The bands I have most enjoyed seeing for various reasons are Will Haven, Tool, Blood Brothers and Thursday; but every time I see a band I am unavoidably in a different frame of mind and emotional state each time, so sometimes I will be in the mood for uplifting emotional music and sometimes for angrier, heavier music. This means that some days I will be spellbound by Tool, and others I will find them over-long and tedious. The best shows are those where I connect unthinkingly with the feel of what is being played onstage, and that is something beyond the control of either myself or the band...

Billy Joel & Elton John. Elton is extremely musically talented. However, Billy Joel stands out further because he works the audience in addition to being a musical talent. Love the Billy.

When I was 21, I went to a 5 band spectacular: Fleetwood Mac, Little River Band, Santana, Kevin Borich Express and Creation (from Japan). Of these, Fleetwood Mac was a disappointment as Stevie Nicks was off her head on drugs and couldn't even remember the words, let alone sing on key but LITTLE RIVER BAND. From the first a cappella notes of "It's a Long Way There", it was magic, till the end...I have never loved a performance so much in my life as that one, and I have seen many. I can still hear it and see it in my head...the precision harmonies, the brilliant musicianship, the professionalism of Glenn Shorrock, the lead singer, who was just dynamic. Yes, LRB forever.

Australian Crawl and that is saying something, as I have seen The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Bee Gees, etc. The worst big band live, Creedance Clearwater!! but I still love their records.

Ah... I can't choose one! So... here are three. But don't take my opinion unless you actually listen to the music I do, because otherwise you are going to be thinking these bands suck anyways (or something.) =P

30 Seconds to Mars actually has a really good live show. I thought they would be one of those bands that only sound good on cd's, but when I saw them I was astounded by how much like the cd they actually sounded like.

When I saw Senses Fail, they were really good, too. Stage presence, and sound quality for the most part. But I heard that they are hit or miss, so maybe I just got lucky when I saw them.

And Scary Kids Scaring Kids were really good, too. I guess this fits under music quality, too. But they also interacted with the crowd, too, so maybe stage presence, also. I am actually even going to see them again in a week or so. I think that's a pretty good indicator of them being pretty good in concert.
