  • That was my age when I took my first flight many years ago. I don't recall being to upset about it. My only memories of that flight (Toronto to Salt Lake City) was the the length and boringness of it. My mom brought along a couple of comics which I quickly read completely (right down to the advertising for X-Ray specs and Sea Monkeys). I would suggest taking along a portable DVD player (that uses a battery) and a couple of his/her favourite movies. Either that or a portable media player (iPhone, iTouch, Creative Zen or Arcos) with either movies or TV shows loaded on it. Even a laptop with a couple of episodes of Seaseme Street, Electric Company or Reading Rainbow loaded on it will do in a pinch. You can take along a fully-charged Game boy and a couple of games for an emergency back up. And, of course, there's always comic books <grin>. Hope this helps. P.S. Don't forget chewing gum. Give them a piece of gum the second they get on the plane and make sure they have another when the plane starts descending. This will cut down any discomfort caused by pressure differences.
