Unfortunately, there's really no such thing as an AVI "file type" like there are other .DOC or .XLS file types. AVI is actually a family of file types, and you need the correct CODEC (decoding subroutine) installed onto your media player to view it. Usually, there are separate codecs for video and audio, which is why you'll sometimes get the sound but not the image, or get the image but not the sound. The same is true for .MOV and some other media files. Of course, you should make sure you have the latest version of whatever media player you're using, be it Windows Media Player, Apple Quick Time, WinAmp, etc. If that doesn't work, then you should go to the site whee you downloaded the video and it should tell you the name of the codec that they used to create the AVI file, which you can then Google it and download it. Better yet, they should have a link to the codec right on their site. BEWARE: Some porn sites encode their movies with home-made codecs that include spyware/adware. You need their custom codec to view the action, so you have no choice but to install their spyware/adware to watch the movie. ALSO: Always virus-scan everything you download before you do anything with it, including AVI movies and codecs. Generally, my advice, if you can't watch an AVI or MOV with what codecs that already come pre-installed with the latest version of WMP or QT, then cest la vie...

AVI is what is called "a container". It "contains" a video file. The actual code inside the container is determined by the program and settings used by the creator of the video file. Many people who create these files (not getting into the "source" of the file) tweak the settings to get the best clarity for the smallest size. This will end up with a custom file that cannot be played by the standard media players. The solution is to download a player that comes with these non-standard "codecs" (COder-DECoder) already built-in such as VLC (it's free) or to download and install a codec pack for your current media player. I prefer the second option myself and recommend the K-Lite Codec Pack (it's also free). Hope this helps.
