I don't believe it's the same as lying. Discretion to me is only answering yes or no and never saying....but, ect. Discretion is telling only what you need to, kind of like a need to know basis.

I think using discretion is just being smart about what you say on a need-to-know basis, but lying is outright distorting facts.

To use discretion is to choose wisely. "User discretion is advised!" When you use discretion in your words, you choose them wisely for the circumstance. This could be anything from choosing which words to use based on the sensibilities of the person or people you are addressing, to saying only what needs to be known for the moment. ******************** The latter is certainly more appropriate when dealing with children than when dealing with adults.
