  • Your premise is incorrect. It is not envy it is fear the 'their' woman will have a child by another man. In ancient times people did not knew that bearing children had any connection to the act of having sex. In the societies of those days families usually consisted of sisters and brothers who raised the children the women gave birth to. This made the women more essential to the family than the men, and ofthen such societies were Matriarcal (dominated by women). But once people began domesticating animals they usually figured out the connection and that is when men stated to be domineering. Hiding their women away in harems or the kitchen, claiming they had the exclusive 'right' to impregnate 'their' women, etc. Preserving the bloodline became paramount. Try reading about the patriarcs in the bible with this in mind, it explains a lot. regards JakobA
