The manager holds the real power the salesman is limited as far as what he can offer, or so it would seem. If you ask a priest for something and he says "let me just run this by God", then he comes back and says "God says no.", you are likely to accept it, but you would probably not from the priest. They also like to play games like holding on to your license so you feel trapped and don't leave. The Salesman is more of a puppet than you would think. Also if they ask "how much can you afford a month?" don't tell them. They will just price the vehicles accordingly.

The sales manager is actually the salesperson. They must give the final ok on the deal unless of course the salesperson has you sold on a price that the manager would be more than ok with. As a former car saleswoman, I suggest always mention that you will be shopping around for prices elsewhere, and ask to talk to the manager directly. They are the ones that will call the shots and work up a deal. Be stubborn and even tell them that you were not looking to spend over a certain amount (a price considerably lower than the purchase price) and always be ready to walk out. Good Luck!
