  • Physicists have found the law of nature which prevents time travel paradoxes, and thereby permits time travel. It turns out to be the same law that makes sure light travels in straight lines, and which underpins the most straightforward version of quantum theory, developed half a century ago by Richard Feynman. http://www.lifesci.sussex.ac.uk/home/John_Gribbin/timetrav.htm#time_travel_possible ----- It might be possible, but not by travelling faster than the speed of light as previously believed.
  • I remember sitting through a complicated physics, philosophy lecture with the Prof out front explaining this very concept. It all made sense at the time and even though the time warp was minescle he did manage to present the theory very convincingly. Maybe I should go and dig it out again!
  • Time travel is possible! But anything that would travel through time would have to be turned light(would have to share the same charicteristics as light). Any michine we would build to go that fast would be crushed by gravity and would be about 100 times to slow. But people are researching turning information into light with possibilities of virtual reality glasses so you could time travel without the risk of "getting stuck"
  • I believe anything is possible. 100 years ago they would have never imagined us doing what we are doing right now!
  • Technically speaking, we're all doing it right now. It functions on much the same principle that allows me to fly, but only in a downwards direction.
  • I am traveling forward in time as I type this. There is no return however and I am really not sure how it happens. I did enjoy reading the other answers.
  • No, time travel is impossible, in order to go fast enough to effect time to go any noticeable amount, your mass would become unbelievably huge, until it became infinite, causing you to die, although, time viewing has never been disproved.
  • ...Time cannot exist without space, and likewise, space cannot exist without time. This interconnected relationship of time and space is called the spacetime continuum, which means that any event that occurs in the universe has to involve both space and time. According to Einstein's theory of special relativity, time slows as an object approaches the speed of light. This leads many scientists to believe that traveling faster than the speed of light could open up the possibility of time travel to the past as well as to the future. The problem is that the speed of light is believed to be the highest speed at which something can travel, so it is unlikely that we will be able to travel into the past. As an object nears the speed of light, its relativistic mass increases until, at the speed of light, it becomes infinite. Accelerating an infinite mass any faster than that is impossible, or at least it seems to be right now. That was taken directly from www.HowStuffWorks.com, which is a great site by the way! :)
  • 1) to the first person who wrote in here, light apparently can be bent, a blackhole bends light. 2) you know it would take an unlimited amount of energy to accelerate to speed o light? well in space things barely slow down so it would be better to try it out der since there aint as many particles to push agianst so the craft doesn't need to have engines on all the time 2 move 3) im bored and im just a teenager! im sure sum1 will counter0argue my points lol
  • I hope not, it would be too easy to make a mistake.
  • things are only facts until they are disproved, eg the world being flat or my hair being out of control
  • Even if time travel becomes possible by some miracle scientific discovery, you woukld still have to accelerate to faster of the speed of light and circle the earth to pick up speed , once you reach that speed , even if it was possible thst you were traveling into the past it would still apparently take you roughly 10 supra light years to go 2 seconds in to the past .
  • If it ever will be, then don't you think we'd show up right now to show ourselves how we did it? Never.
  • I can't see it ever being able to happen. How could you be in a different time when you didn't exist then, or when you are already there? I just can't grasp that concept at all.
  • Well yes. We're all doing it right now. Since the start of this paragraph all of us have time traveled approximately thirty seconds into the future, depending on my typing speed and your reading speed.
  • I think it is possible for Einstein discovered the theory of relativity.I am sure there is scientists studying and working out time travel.
  • Only in our imagination.
  • Theres only one way to find out....build a time machine ^^
  • Just ask the time travelers from the future.
  • some people believe that what we think of as an alien might be what humans evolve into, so technically they could be in a time machine from the future, come to change the past.
  • I think ANYTHING will be possible in the future, things that we cannot imagine. The crew of the USS Enterprise were caught up in many scenarios involving time travel, so I'm SURE it's possible!
  • I would like to think so but in reality, no.
  • Doctor Who does it! I think that the possibilities for the future are endless. Although time travel seems unlikely, I'm sure space travel seemed unlikely to people 200 years ago.
  • Scientists are already able to teleport photons from one side of a room to the other. I'm not lying. They say it's only a matter of time before they can send particles back and forth in time. So... maybe it is possible, who knows?
  • The answer to your question is YES! Dr. Ronald Mallet of The UCONN and many Scientist are exploring a wide range of theories and experiments as they attempt to understand how to achieve time travel. These great minds are only limited by their ability to be creative. "GOD has made us in His Image" which means we have no limits except those we place on ourselves. Time Travel has already been achieved but we are unable to detect the changes because we are in the Alternate Past. In my vast research into the spiritual realm I have been given some revealing insight by the Holy Spirit which Type I Thinkers call "Human Intuition" I have Faith in GOD and if you stay faithful all things will be revealed to you! I believe that all the answers to life are laid out in the most simple way for us to understand and you can find those answers in the Bible. I also know that anyone who attempts to read and understand the Bible without first inviting the Holy Spirit to be their Helper and Friend will not understand what they are reading. You must have faith and God will reveal His Truth to you as it is written. Read your Bible!
  • It is quite possible to travel into the future. Some people have already done it, albeit only 2 billionths of a second into the future. Basically, the faster you go the slower time passes for yourself. So, if you could travel at 0.9C (C = speed of light in a vacuum) for any length of time then when you stop you would have moved into the future. 1 week could have passed for yourself but 1 year could have passed on earth. The maths is quite simple but I can not remember it right now. As for travelling into the past, atm that is still impossible. However, who is to say time truly is a one way dimension?
  • Absolutely- Didn't you see Back to the Future?
  • Dude, We already had this conversation 3 weeks from now!
  • I think there are certain laws in physics, that will never allow certain things to be done. Due to the fact it would cause a HUGE paradox, and end life and our universe as we know it.
  • Short answer: No Long answer: If god wanted us to travel time we would have been born witht he ability so i dont think its mans business to try... In no way am i pushing beliefs im just stating what i believe
  • Yep..I think so. In fact, maybe it is already possible and has happened..we just are limited by the 3 dimensions we can perceive..maybe we live in a 10-dimensional world and it is in these other dimensions where time travel is taking place! :) ((hugs))
  • I think it could happen. It will be cool when they figure it out.
  • Yes, we already manipulate 3 dimensions, it won't be long before we figure out a way to manipulate the 4th.
  • Believe it or not, you're travelling through time right now. From the present, to the future. Tada.
  • Time travel is possible - it is even really, really easy. But any timeline which causes a paradox cannot exist. But, humans being what they are, if the knowledge of time travel ever got out, some stupid fool would use it to create a paradox and destroy that universe. So the only universes which can exist are those in which, by a fantastic series of improbable coincidences, no-one ever discovers time travel despite its obviousness.
  • "Remote Viewing" is already being practiced. Time travel, you just can't take your body!
  • relative time travel exists in theory
  • No, time travelling is impossible! You would have to travel so fast, at 360,000 miles per second, your body would disintergrate through a speed of light to do this. If somebody invented a Time Machine, he would appear from the future anytime now, but he hasn't appeared from the future since the Earth was born, so that means... 'over there' in the future, nobody has invented the Time Machine.
  • Yes, and we have 'sightseer's' here as we speak
  • Time is relative to motion (space) and gravity. The earth is in motion and has gravity, so therefore you are traveling in time. Every motion of your hand, as compared to the other hand that you hold still, is causing that hand to time travel. The time frame for the moving hand, is minutely different than the hand you are not moving, until the motion stops, and time snaps back. There was an experiment I read about where the scientists, infused a tube with ceasium atoms. They then shot a pulse of light into the tube. Something about the ceasium caused the light to accelerate to such a speed, that it fully exited the tube, before it had completely entered. The light had traveled in time, in that the light that exited the tube, was witness to it's own past. A portion of the light, was in two places, at the same time. So the question isn't whether we can, we are; it's to what degree, can we time travel, and survive.
  • if i discovered how to do it i wouldnt be in a rush to tell anyone how my lips would be sealed
  • Fact from fiction, truth from diction. IF time travel was possible. In this present time there is no way to generate the type of power it would take to make that happen. To go back in time you would have to take the WHOLE universe back in time. People get this ideal that when you see movies about people going back in time that it is just the world and the moon etc. It is not. The whole universe has to go back or forward or it would be as if you sent your brain, minus the body, back to the battle of Gettysburg. The in the pass brain would die because it had no body to provide blood to it, and the present time no brain body would die because there would be no brain to tell the lungs to breath and the heart to pump. You can't send Earth or this solar system back minus the rest of the cosmos. It all is tied together as a unit. So how do you get enough power to take universes back in time we can't even get to in the present?
