    Blackberry.

He has the power to get away with it. His basilica looks like a mansion. Do you think Jesus would have a huge mansion to rule over his people with, I actually think he said rich men can't get into heaven lol.

The Pope must wear the attire that will befit his stature.
Cost of the attire is not material relevance here.
    Decorum is of greater significance.
And decorum must be maintained regardless the expenses.

The Catholic Church is a powerful and wealthy organization. The Pope needs to have a lot of "pomp".

If you want to be the highest of your church, your status and everything about it has to become unobtainable. The more expensive, the better.

Because the Catholic church is so rich it needs to spend it's money on something besides helping the poor.

Thats a good question. It go's against what Jesus said. "to humble yourself".
All for show and to look important. Very very sad. It does not impress me. People are starving in Rome, going through rubbish bins looking for food and the pope sits in his expensive robes and hats in a gold lined vatican. What must Jesus think?
"For what ever you do unto your brother you do unto me".
