I use a Mozilla browser similar to Firefox (SeaMonkey) that lets me add a script-blocking plugin called "NoScript." It blocks all javascript items except those you permit. Very nice. I see no ads on most websites, including this one. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 There are many adblocking utilities out there, but NoScript is my favorite. The downside is that it sometimes takes a moment to see what you're looking for on a new website, while you figure out which scripts you need to enable. (You get a pop-up menu and you can select some scripts and reject others.) It's not for beginners, but for intermediate users and up you won't have any trouble.

It is the Google Adwords program. The Answerbag server tells Google what it is going to say, and Google picks ads using keywords from the Answerbag text. You can see the "Ads by Google" at the top of the column of ads.
