The shipper usually offers it at an additional fee. You can insure it with an insurance company, but some will not cover an item in transit (has to be a named peril). YOu would have to ask. Regardless, I would get an appraisal, take pics of the ring and ask your shipper about insurance options. I think that's you best bet.

I suppose you will send the jewelry through a specialized shipping company something like what was FEDEX. In that case ask them, they have their own rules just make sure the insurance will cover the whole route from origin to destination.
