  • seperate but equal? equallity in any situation is a shoot and a miss, unless all partyies are left "undefined" meaning that no compensation is made at all. then the majorities represent the majority of "spots filled" and people fail to read into the stats that it is perportional. compensation, de-compesation...screw it all and call fair as it is.
  • No, it's not ironic, it's progress but you strike me as a Fundie so, yeah, that would be ironic to you and progress will never face you much less be accepted by you
  • Absence of preferential treatment is not discrimination. And women are NOT a minority - they actually are a slight majority.
  • Your understanding of irony is almost as expert as that of Alanis Morrissette, and your tact is akin to that of a temper tantrum throwing toddler. http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/5276887 http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1216985 http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/5250541 http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/5313625
  • Here we go again. ALL minorities get privileges? All? Care to elaborate on that? Be specific, please. If you are going to make a broad generalization, back it up. Sooooo... do minorities NOT face discrimination or face less than white folks? Let me give you a hint of what ONE minority faces today. Now, bear in mind, this is just ONE minority who faces it and gets NO "privileges" or help in any way: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/4724841 http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/4790220 http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/5215912 Now, I am not saying that this ONE minority has it any worse than any other minority because I cannot compare since I have only one shoes to walk in. I am saying that what you said is ridiculous. As far as those who DO get help, are all inequities fixed for them? They have it better than in the past BUT are the problems solved and should progress towards solving them end? I know which ethnicity to which you refer and have YOU walked a mile in the shoes of someone from this ethnicity? Can you honestly say that ALL inequities against them are fixed? No, I am not of this ethnicity. I am also not saying that white people do not face it... they do and anyone who says they do not has THEIR heads up their *sses. And, yes, when I see that I have something to say about IT too. I have seen racism against whites in real life and online and I object to this JUST as strongly as I do to any other racism. The secondary premise behind your statement is ridiculous. I am saying to YOU to not judge until you walk in another person's shoes.
  • Yeah, it's true. Women, black people and homosexuals are never discriminated against, ever. They are totally accepted in our society as equal, and face absolutely no adversity of any kind. I would type more, but just thinking about the travesty of the white man's plight in modern America has got me all misty-eyed.
  • Yes, maybe we should start one of those share-a-thons...to raise money for all the whie men that face discrimination. I, as a woman and a Latina, have never felt discriminated against. We should all be so lucky.
  • I am a white guy in my mid 50s, so please accept that I have seen the changes you are speaking about. I do not however feel quite the same as you appear to. "Ironic", no, not at all. "Privileges", hmmmm, not the right word at all. In the way you are using it, the privileged would be an upper crust or select few who have an advantage or access to certain restricted services or good. As almost all have the same "privileges" now for the service you are referring to, the word does not apply. "Discrimination" is also probably not the right word as what seems to be happening is white men are no longer able to assume a place of superiority or privilege that they once did. This is not discrimination, but more likely equality which men are having to get used to. There has been some reverse discrimination which has seen women and racial minorities given preference for civil service jobs etc. but this is largely now finished as the playing field has almost been equaled. There are many areas where race and gender still do have significant impacts. These would include pay equity, access to sports venues and activities, informal racial and gender profiling by law enforcement, health and social agencies. Women are also not allowed to serve in front line combat roles in many Western country's militaries. Left unsaid here is the plight of women and minorities (racial & religious) in non-Western countries.
  • Here we go again! . I would go so far as to say that the presumptions behind this question are asinine. . The trend has been toward EQUALITY under the law. Yeah, I can cite instances otherwise, but equality under the law has been the goal and it IS the trend. . Are there still inequalities in privileges? Yes. Does discrimination still affect people? Yes. Do these factors vary over time? Yes. . Inequalities and discrimination will ALWAYS exist to some extent, given human nature, and will vary geographically, with the differing peoples, cultures, times, and laws.
  • Ignorance is bliss, isn't it Soccergirl?
  • It's not ironic and it's not even as "serious" (for lack of better words) as you've put it. Minorities still deal with sterotypes and discrimination, it's not as if it shifted from one group to the other (dpn't get me wrong though...some whites, just like some minorities, deal with discrimiantion too). From personal exprience, I don't know any white male who faces more discrimination than minorities (gays, women, blacks, latinos, asians). I think things are begining to even out. I believe that the avg. white man I know is begining to notice "discrimination"/not live as comfprtably as they could before as other races have more opportunities/less serious racism (meaning life threatening racism such as being killed)/more of a voice and can better themselve more... the more minorities that do this means that more laws/rules that needs to be made to ensure that they get jobs as well and aren't discriminated against because of race/gender. To argue that the avg. white man is recieveing treatment that black women back in the day did is a stretch (and a slap in the face to black women who struggled in that era). ( -edit- changed because of typos and poor engligh. content still the same.)
  • I agree with you. I never see Women getting punched in the boobs or black men getting kicked in the balls on TV.
  • ...doesn't feel too good--DOES it?? LOL
