Because scabs itch.

Because its itchy

I do it all the time. Why, it just looks so pickable, i must still be a young boy at heart.
-
Because they're lumpy and crusty and don't belong on your skin!
-
I do it out of anxiety, if I see it or feel it on my skin, I want it off, and the more anxious I am the more I will do it. I have scratched at myself until I bleed and then have got something to pick at. I know I am gross :(
-
I didn't pick mine, they just formed on their own after I fell off my motorbike etc. I would have chosen something a little more aesthetically appealing, like a tattoo of blood dripping off a sword with a snake wrapped around it! LOL
-
Because I have this thought that if I pick it off they'll go away and my skin will be back to normal!!
-
some people even eat them. sounds tasty.

I am screwed up from being abused verbally as a child and then put OCD on top of that...WOW!!! I have picked my scabs for years!! Its very embarassing with all the scars I have.. Then start as small little scabs(even a small bug bite) and I make it larger and larger... I hate it!! People will say "Oh what happened there??" I always just make something up.. :(

It is somewhat gross, but whenever I do it, it's because they're so damn itchy. I know I shouldn't pick them off, because they're part of the healing process, so instead of hitting them, I usually smack or punch them, or, rarely, when the itch just won't stop, put the flame of a lighter close to the scab for just a second or two. The temporary pain is WAY worth it to get rid of that awful attention-grabbing itchiness.

I myself am a victim of this atrocity. After trying all kinds of remedies, including peroxide, alcohol, calamine, cover up makeup, band-aiding every sore so I would be embarassed to go out in public, etc, I find that Cortaid provides much needed relief. I've been extra careful lately because my 10 year old son is repeating the cycle. I just used a box of 30 band-aids to get him covered up. We are now bribing him with money. I try and get him to look at all my scars and use that as a scare tactic, but then, he's like, why should I listen when you do it too???? Pot calling the kettle black scenario. I'm much better than ever, but I have a lot of embarassing scars. I am also a product of sexual abuse as a child amongst other things and I know that much of why I do is it's my way of being in control. Good luck to all of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

i loveee it,i think its because its so releaving so have this big chunk of dry skin peeled off of you

i think we pick because it comes from our primal urge to groom ourselves like we did when we were chimps. we were constantly looking in our skin (fur) and the skin of our other chimp friends, looking for ticks and other tasty parasites. so when we touch our skin and find a bump, we automatically want to remove it. that served us well when we were chimps and needed to remove parasites from our body. so just tell yourself, bumps are good, bumps are healing, bumps are good.

Because its yummy. ;) They itch a bit to be honest but leave scars. Best not to itch them. If you really want something yummy, best dig in the nose for some green gold. ;)
