  • I take both for OCD. I've read stories about getting off of Paxil and it all depends on the person. I don't feel withdrawal when I run out (ran out of Paxil today and am waiting for another prescription). However, I've read stories where people have to go to drug rehab and have said it's tantamount to getting off of crack. It all depends on the person's body.
  • The change might need monitoring,or in-patient treatment(As I have been put in for this type of med change before) You might be ok with slowly stopping the paxil and then slowly beginning the effexor,,,the doctors who prescribe these should have already explained this for you,Why ask us?
  • Anon, A warning to you. I took Effexor for 5 years. When it came time for me to slowly stop taking it the side-effects were horrendous. It took me 5 months of withdrawal to finally get the drug out of my system. I now suffer from memory loss and some confusion because of this. Whilst going through the withdrawal I could not even string a sentence together nor understand what people were saying to me. If I went outside I would get lost. It really is the worst most horrific drug to come off. It's like being in a neverending nightmare. If you can stay away from it I would STRONGLY advise it. Salaam
