Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns. The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren. Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time. Best and nost simple answer is be true to your faith what ever it is. All faith tell you how to be and act. Be kind to others because it is the right thing to do and not because you want to seen as so. No one knows when end of days will be so live normal treat those as you would be treated and be true to your faith. If you have no faith then this doesn't affect you because death is death and not a new begining.

Sorry to say this, but I think you've missed it. The Bible gives us two clues about the timing of Jesus' second and the accompanying apocalypse; 1. the existing generation at the time of his ministry will not have passed by the time he returns 2 all of his disciples will not have tasted death by the time he returns. As both these events happened some time ago you can only conclude that the apocalypse has already taken place.
