  • Yes, and you can do this with any car that doesn't have the gearbox 1/2" from the sidewall of the engine bay. Should you? If you enjoy bleeding, cursing, lifting four-hundred pound transmissions and couplings, using feeler gauges, repetitively tweaking and wasting gallons of automatic transmission fluid, and tripling the anticipated worktime, sure. Hopefully it's clear that I don't suggest it unless you are reconfiguring the car for racing... to wit, my friend replaced a Mazda RX7 engine, automatic with a 350 GM and a manual transmission. He had to work with a 550 pound gearbox, install his own floor shifter (including drilling gigantic holes in the floor of the car, dangerously close to the fuel line), took him over 80 hours, etc. The car is a charm now, does a 1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds, but good LORD did it p*ss him off. So, it clearly can be done but I advise against it.
