A nebula is a cloud of dust and/or gas, and not part of a planet, though planets can form from the dust and gas in a nebula. (So can stars, which makes the misnomer even more 'misnomerish', since nebula are regarded as the birthplace of stars.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebula
