So after months of just looking at the disc i finally installed the xbox dashboard update. I see there is an option to rip the games to the HDD but you still need the disc to play the game. Is there a reason for this? Am i missing something here?

The game will load faster, but Microsoft still doesn't want you copying the game to your drive and selling it to your buddy.

They do that to prevent you from buying one game, and let 20 of your freinds copy the game too. That would be detrimental to the game maker. Your game should stay in good condition, as the xbox only verifies that it's the proper game. Then the disc will remain at rest inside your system
