if i were you i would forget about the credit card. its hard enough just starting out on your own without the added stress of credit card repayments. i was 17 when i moved out and i thought it would be easy but then i realised how expensive things were. gas, electric, tv liscense, council tax, rent, water bills, and shopping it really does all add up so i think it would be even harder with a credit card on top of all that. if i were you i would get the things i needed (essential things) then just add other things when i had the money spare. good luck

I took a credit class once. I hate the thought of having a credit card, because of exactly what staffie was saying, but in this class what he said to do was get a credit card with a small limit and only use it ONCE a month. use it on something you already HAVE to spend money on i.e: car insurence ect. than pay it RIGHT back. He said this will build your credit.

dont see why you would need a credit check to rent an apartment. get a mobile contract phone, for example t mobile have a plan called u fix, you get so many minutes and texts to use everymonth, and it is a fixed price, then if you have used them you have to top up. getting a credit card though, you would have to make sure that you paid it up in time, otherwise you would get a late payment on your credit file. do not get store cards though, very high apr.

The Credit Card is just gonna be a problem not a solution. What you need to do is to work for what you want, get a job and save up. You could flatmate with another so its cheaper

Your confused. Credit scores have nothing to do with you getting an apartment. What management companies are looking for is rental history. They want to know if you ever broke a lease or have ever been foreclosed on ect. they just want to know that your can fullfill the obligations of your lease. If you don't have perfect credit, you can ask the management if they would accept the first months/last months rent, or accept a double down deposit as collateral so you can build your rental history. If you default your lease you don't get your deposit back, first months, last months rent is self explanatory. Hold out for the apartment you want, it is probably best to work with an apartment locator who will work to find you your perfect apartment. Don't let them rush you or sucker you, ask Q's and get A's, you got the money, your run the show, and eventually your gonna get what you want your way. Don't be afraid to be assertive to these people... and you should be fine. Goodluck.

Look, are you responsible? If the answer is yes, and you trust YOURSELF, then obtain a credit card and build your credit legitimately. A credit card is a privilege, there is no need to be afraid of them. Set limits and pay off your balance within a few month's.
