A saying many parents used when I was a child. I thought it was a bunch of crap then and still do. We spend many years as parents telling our children not to jump off the cliff just because Johnny does it, or well you don't have to have that name brand t-shirt just because Susie has it, and yet this statement totally negates that. Here we are telling them to conform to what their friends are doing so that they will be accepted, another words become a robot.

No, these days it's all about being your own person, standing up for what you personally believe in and not being bullied by peer pressure. Now, if you really don't care where you eat dinner, fine, go along with the crowd...otherwise shine a bright distinct light like a star.

I think that just builds up resentment that turns into explosions (and the destruction of relationships). Any disagreements, etc., should just be handled upfront and immediately.
