Help answer this question below.
A government which think's that it's own citizens are not capable of deciding how best to live their own lives is a problem. A government which thinks that people cannot possibly be trusted to make their own decisions (Healthcare, Schools) is a government which has it's priorities skewed. Ronald Regan was anti big government and wanted to minimize it's impact on our lives, we are going the opposite way of that now.
I think government SHOULD be the solution. That's their only reason for existence - to solve problems. Sadly, governments everywhere seem to cause more problems than they solve mainly because politicians are generally corrupt and more interested in feathering their own nests than serving the people/ country.
Money has become the deciding factor in too many issues. The rich win their court cases so justice has been comprimised. The rich win elections so democracy has been compromised...and so on. Capitalists wielding the power of money have too much power over governments and therefore our democracies are flawed.
Sorry, can't resist this.
Governmentium.
The Heaviest Element Known to Science
Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science.
The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from 4 days to 4 years to complete.
Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years. It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.
In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.
This characteristic of morons promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.
When catalysed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.
Yes!
A government run by Republicans is a problem...to everyone.
Yes, and it's gonna get worse these next 4 years
political hooha
deregulation is when wide boys and liars grow wealthy
100% correct.
In a free market society government is a liability.
Government does not generate revnue, sales do.
Government reduces the revenue from sales by taking a percentage of that revenue in taxes.
Government does not add value to the product, investment does.
Reductions in revenue caused by taxation reduce the funds available for research and development and that inhibits the value of the product.
Government does not provide products or services.
It is very true. We need the government out of our lives.
Without a doubt government is the problem. They are responsible for the meltdown of the economy, handing out bailouts, our crappy school systems, we still have homeless people, wars we shouldn't be fighting, excessive spending, etc. Government has gotten to big and full of bureaucracies. They have lost touch with the people they are supposed to be working for. If you don't have a multi million dollar company and have lobbyists looking out for your best interests you get screwed.
Yes. I believe with Thomas Jefferson ( or Henry David Thoreau, depending on who you beliveve ), "That government is best which governs least." Government can create nothing; all it can do is tax those who do, then use the tax money to enact programs which will keep the politicians in office. The more laws we have, the less free we are. Income tax is an abomination. Government tends to expand to the limit of its funding, whether such expansion is warranted or not.
It's true to some extent but it's an over-generalization. We just learned during the Bush administration that the free enterprise system cannot fix all our problems. If you don't have a government watchdog, there can be dire consequences.
no.
without a doubt....
That's just the sort of glib sound-bite that is typical of a politician - especially one seeking election. If he truly believed that he wouldn't have stood for government office. I don't believe that either part of that statement is completely true.
Yes. Take the flaws in public education as a primary problem caused by American government intervention. Government is slow, inefficient, and politicians are little more than menial servants that do their party masters' bidding. They are not equipped academically or gifted enough intellectually to deal with the problems of education in America. We cannot afford to let these intellectual cripples do any more damage to our schools and colleges. These decisions need to be made by competent human beings without political appointments or agendas that that taint and destroy the fabric of independent and honest scholarship. They should not block ideas or rule over the intellectual explorations of the learned teachers and professors that stand on the principles of academic freedom. We must remove the political bars and chains of the fascists of both the left and the right that afflict academic freedom and the ability to speak on any subject without fear of retribution by fools in pocketed robes. We must be able to disagree without epitaphs or labels thrown at those who question decisions and policies. We must eject the politicians from the equation and allow sanity to re-enter the academic arena.
Yes he was and is COrrect Obama is a big Problem.
Yes, absolutely true. Perfect evidence is the situation we are in today, caused 99% by government intervention into the private sector. Now everyone thinks the government can fix it, which is bizarre. Government has failed at every institution it has run other than the one it was intended to, the military. Just think what a wonderful job the government has done with Social Security- robbed a 'trust' blind, Medicare- a disaster, Education - a disaster, Poverty - tens of trillions spent, no progress, Housing- See Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, disasters. Now many want the government to take over health care. Sheeez.
Not really, Government does provide things like schools police, and hospitals, so I cant say its a problem. I will say that some aspects of government need to be revamped, so the public can get the maximum from it, without hassle.
Yes!
RR also cited one of the biggest lies you'll ever hear: "We're from the Government...and we're here to help you."
YES
It is interesting that the people who expound "Government is the problem, not the solution" will assert "guns don't kill people, people kill people".
So, guns are a tool of the people but the people's government is not?
YES!!

You're reading Ronald Reagan said, "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem." Do you believe that's true?

Thanks Big. Certainly, individual initiative is a major part of what makes America work. But failure of government to do what it should do is a big part of what ails America, today. We are #37 worldwide in health care when rated by measurable things such as infant mortality, death from preventable disease, etc. The only thing our health care system is number one for is cost. We pay far more than any other nation on earth and don't get what we pay for.
Seems to me this is one area where government can and should do more.

Government should not do more regarding healthcare. First of all, it is not the job of government to provide healthcare to the citizens. If you disagree, I would encourage you to show me where in the constitution it says that it is. Next, I would also challenge you to show me even one program that the government runs well and efficiently. Do you really want them in charge of your healthcare? Finally, if our healthcare is so bad why do people from all over the world come here for treatment? The government is already far too intrusive in our lives and I certainly don't want them involved any more than they already are.

Health care costs have always baffled me. A couple of things pop out in my mind as being symptoms. Doctors over prescribe medicines and treatments or tests for two reasons in my mind. #1 Americans expect a miracle pill to fix things like diabetes because their fat ass can't get off a couch to exercise, or booze it up and get cerrosis of the liver etc. #2 Doctors are so worried about getting sued the do too many tests, prescribe too many pills. Their overheads are larger due to medical malpractice insurance etc they have to jam pack their day with patients and don't get to spend much time with any of them. IMHO

We have the finest healthcare that money can buy for those with enough money to buy it. But our overall delivery of health care for our citizens rates down at the bottom of the developed world. We're between Solvenia and Costa Rica. All the major developed nations beat the pants off of us and spend roughly half as much per capita to do it.

that is a problem, not an easy one to understand that's for sure!

What we need is not govt enforced healthcare, but tort reform so that healthcare can afford to do their job without looking over their shoulder all the time. THEN they can afford to provide reasonable care to everyone.
by LarryH54 on March 30th, 2011
Tort reform would breing costs down a little. We do still need the ability to sue for a truly botched job, though. Some people are honestly damaged or killed by careless or incompetent medical procedures. If we over limit the ability to recover damages, profit-driven hospitals will cut costs to the bond and if people die because of that, well, profits come before people.
