  • My parents taught me that it was. As a young adult I decided to investigate for myself. After considering what it contained I was compelled to agree. Why? Some are convinced it is the word of God by the principals it contains, since these are just as applicable today as when they were recorded. Some are convinced by the prophecies that have been fulfilled, (many can be verified through secular sources.). However, for me, the most compelling evidence of Divine authorship was scientific. The Law given to Moses reflects an understanding of the relationship between bacteria and disease. Modern medicine has come to understand this link only within the last 200 years. (Lewis Pasteur) The Israelites received instructions about: -where and how to dispose of human waste -avoid touching anything dead -if you DID touch something dead, you were to wash and avoid others for the rest of the day -if you were sick you were quarantined, (dwelt outside of the camp) -if a sick person entered the camp they were to cover their mouth and call out to warn others that they were contagious. (unclean) - Also, while other civilizations had pretty far fetched ideas about what supported the earth, (sea turtles, elephants, serpents), the Bible stated that God was "Hanging the earth upon nothing"(Job 26:7) An appropriate description of gravity. And Isaiah 40:22 says "There is One who is dwelling above the circle of the earth." (This word can also be translated 'sphere'). The Bible is not a book of science. However, when it touches on the subject it reflects NONE of the misconceptions held by ancient civilizations. Views which we now consider ridiculous, but which were accepted, by many, as fact at the time the Bible was recorded.
