There were probably many things earlier than this, but what's "memorable" for me? First grade. Learning vocabulary words. When a word card was raised up .. we raised our hands if we knew the word. If selected, we would stand up and say the word. If right, we walked up to teacher's desk and solemnly accepted the big word card. Then we went to the six foot high "bear" with the BIG OPEN MOUTH standing in the front of the room. UP onto the stepping stool .. reach .. and had the honor of FEEDING THE BEAR by sliding our known word card into his mouth! Then, back down off the stool and a walk back to our desk. Next word card held up and hands raised. I remember learning a LOT of words for the pure joy of maybe being able to feed that bear. LOL
