You're absolutely right. Just as one example: In college in Sacramento, our professor told us that historically, Crocker was a real a-hole, but he paid to have himself written up by a historian as a real wonderful guy. People did that back in the day, and you can be sure it still happens in the present. If I didn't see it with my own eyes or it isn't documented on film, I don't trust anything they tell us.
