  • I don't see how it could be. He didn't own the property when you signed. I went through a similar thing a few years ago where the ownership of the building had changed. I wasn't presented with any lease or rental agreement until the day the sale was finalized. I was, however asked verbally by the new owner, if I intended to stay on under my current agreement. I wasn't asked to sign anything then and had they pressed the matter of signing something before taking ownership, I would have laughed at them. That's akin to the guy that sold the Eiffel tower but didn't own it.
