How does getting a ring for a woman usually work? Do they go together and pick one out, or does the man just get one and surprise her?

It can go both ways. Personally, I would rather go and pick it out with my fiancee. That way I am sure to be happy with it. It is something to have forever, so I would want it to be what I wanted (unless you know exactly what she wants). Just my opinion.

I have heard of it both ways. But if you would like it to be a surprise then you go and pick it out. I have also heard of a man using a plastic ring to ask her to marry him and then took her at a later date so she could pick out the ring she liked best. Good question +5

I guess if the guy knows his gf's tastes well, then it would be okay for him to pick it. If she's "high maintenance", I'd say pick the ring out together. Me? My bf has impeccable taste so I would trust his judgment. I would just worry if it would fit my finger. :-) But in all honesty, he could get me a Cracker Jack ring, and it would be perfect. Queen of Sapovia here!
