  • Mine are brown around the outside and green around the middle. Sometimes they are more one colour than the other. When I am drunk, they are bright green
  • G'day Anonymous, Hazel eyes are a mixture of brown and green. Your eye colour is inherited from your parents. The Scientific American advises that two genes control eye color: "EYCL3, found on chromosome 15, which codes for brown/blue eye color (BEY), and EYCL1, found on chromosome 19, which codes for green/blue eye color (GEY)." The Wikipedia article I have linked to shows the colour. I have attached these sources and others for your reference. • Hazel eyes are not greenish brown. There are no green in them whatsoever. They are golden brown or reddish brown. • Actually, there's a modern North American misconception about hazel eyes. True hazel eyes are only golden brown and/or reddish brown in color. On occasions, hazel could be called "hazel green" if there's a bit of green within but usually green-brown eyes are considered a shade of green rather than hazel because true, pure hazel is ONLY golden and/or reddish brown. What hazel eyes could never be is a blue or gray mixed shade of brown. This has been known for centuries but during the last hundred years or so, people in North America started misusing the term "hazel". True hazel eyes DO appear to shift in color from deep brown to a light gold, amber or honey color, depending upon the lighting conditions. This is from intense golden and/or reddish specks and/or golden or reddish rings around the pupil. People in Europe (where hazel eyes originated) are completely aware of this and call "hazel eye color" properly! Source: I'm an eye specialist. Verification: Look at the links below: http://www.fanteye.com/extimages/p_FreshlooksColorblendsChartLG.jpg http://www.eyeboutique.com/contacts.htm (Click on "Pure Hazel" then "green" on the left side to see the difference!) http://www.ioffer.com/i/101035751 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TAFUBY/ref=asc_df_B001TAFUBY837324?smid=A1SQEADHZWA40I&tag=nextag-hpc-mp-delta-20&linkCode=asn http://www.colormecontacts.com/articles/16-colored-contacts-dark-eyes.htm (On the very bottom of the page.) http://www.contactsamerica.com/contacts/product423.asp http://www.yestheyrefake.net/color_contacts_buy_photos.htm (Various places & bottom of the page.) http://www.primaryecp.com/DrRandall/images/Ciba%20Freshlook%20ColorBlends%20Chart.jpg http://www.fanteye.com/extimages/p_FreshlooksColorblendsChartLG.jpg http://color-my-eyes.com/p-51-bella-hazel.aspx http://www.wonderquest.com/eye-color-age.htm (Definition of Hazel Eyes explained - light brown or yellowish brown) http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hazel (Yellow brown color. This is the color hazel eyes are when the lighting is dim: This is the color hazel eyes are when direct sunlight hits them: And reddish-brown is considered hazel, too! What pure hazel eyes NEVER are is a blue or gray mix. Hazel eyes are named from the hazelnut. A hazelnut could be brown: A hazelnut could be gold: A hazelnut could be red: But what a hazelnut could NEVER be is blue or gray!!! I do apologize for all the detail. But I've never seen the likes of such a misconception as that of Americans over the eye color hazel! People in many areas of Europe would find it quite amusing.
