On expensive items or items that I've been shopping for a while.

I take a rain check when I can't currently take up an offer that is being given, but I would like to at some point.

When I'm trying to buy something that was advertised at a bargain price, but the store has run out of stock.

Only when it's something I know I will use it for. Usually something expensive, or of great savings!:) Also, if I invite a good friend to lunch or dinner and they are busy, I'll take a rain check.:)
