I realize it's Greek, I realize it is a female dog....but when was the phrase used? Someone just all of a sudden yelled out 'You son of a female dog"? I don't think so.

There are a couple passages in the Bible that are similar to "Son of a bitch" or just "bitch". In I Samuel 20:30 Saul says to Jonathon, "Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman!" (this would have taken place around 1100 BC) and in Luke 13:32 Jesus says, speaking of King Herod, "Go tell that [female form of] fox..."
