Do members just forget to add points? Personally, unless someone says something negative, always give points.

I give points for great FACTUAL answers. I give negative points for 'bad' answers. For the rest, I do not give points. I do not give points (negative or otherwise) for opinions, which many of the questions and answers on AB are opinions. I do negatively point people for rude, obnoxious, vile, horrible, bigoted, or otherwise nasty behaviors. I have been known to give points for bad grammar, poor spelling if the data contained within the post is worthwhile.

I've read where some users admit to giving no points at all. I guess everyone is here for different reasons. Points don't cost me a thing, so unless someone personally attacks or gives a blatantly wrong answer to a question requiring a right/wrong answer, I give points freely.

Good questions/answers= + points+ Bad questions/answers= - points "Good and bad" deal with being well thought out and sensable, not whether I agree with them. Why would you give point to someone just for breathing?

I have made that mistake. I have gotten into full blown conversation threads; answers + countless comments before I realize I have forgotten to point the question and the original answer :( It does not mean I am rude, just airheaded. Call me on it and I will more than make up for it.

You just got my 4 points - I always give points first when I find the question good - and then I am going to answer. This way I never forget to reward. We have to establish a certain routine otherwise we forget.....

Many do, hoarding them or treating them like they are things to be wielded so carefully. They don't cost anything to give. Some may just not remember, but I'd say a few just don't care enough to do so. They don't come back and read their answers, they just ask and ask and ask and love getting points but won't often give or comment. They are just Point Farmers, willing to harvest them but not being generous themselves.

if I take the time to answer a Q then normally I give points unless I'm answering to point out how ridiculous the question is. I always give points to answers to my Q's just give 1 point if I don't like the answer much and max points otherwise even if I disagree, if it's well worded and not abusive that is. Also when I answer a Q from someone else I normally give points to all answers if the questioner hasn't. And to actually answer your question I think ppl do just forget to click the + sign they just wanna move on and answer more or ask more.

I give points. Its weird that some people dont, even thought i have taken time to answer their questions. most of pretty generous though. i even sometiems go around and give points to random people for their stuff:)

Everyone seems to have their own style or reasoning for the way they give out their points. In the members profile is evidence of the members point giving habits under "% + ratings given." A 100% rating doesn't mean that you've always given points, just that they were always positive.
