Well, I feel that we cannot always look at people as "disliking the way America is" and "liking the way America is" or "liberals" and "conservatives"; "democrats", "republicans", etc., etc. If the scenario that you mentioned did happen, everyone that was still in America wouldn't agree on everything - even if they liked the way this country was going. So, they would start to argue about other things, then different ideas would spring up from their arguments. Minds would be changed and hearts would be softened (keeping in mind that some minds would be still be stubborn and hearts hardened). Also, some people chose not to challenge those that they are feeling are doing wrong because they think someone else will do it. If all of those "someone elses" were gone, I'm sure they would step up to the plate.

Although I am one of those that left America because I didn't like the way the country was, I did so because I am not an American citizen and so my opinion would be ignored. I returned to the UK, another country that I do not feel is as it has the potential to be, but as a UK citizen I can do everything I can to improve the country and make it a better place for future generations to live in. My disappointment with the US is that it has the potential to be really great, and it's people and government are always boasting to the rest of the world about how great they already are. But in truth, having travelled all over the world several times, visited over 50 countries, and lived in 17 different ones, I found the US and the UK to be the most hypocritical, bigotted, racist, intollerent, arrogant, selfish and unwelcoming countries in the world (and that includes comparison with South Africa during Apartheid). Many other countries have only a small fraction of the wealth and advantages of these two countires, yet manage to treat their citizens and visitors to their countries much better. I know I am going to get a lot of comments from people defending their countries and telling me how wrong I am (and probably plenty of worse things), but this is really my experience. Both countries have continued to move further and further to the right, encouraging selfishness and profit over humanity and it truly sickens me that these countries, with the power, influence and promise to do good that they both have, have just become so selfish and antisocial. Before you dismiss my opinions and start on the attacks, just take a moment to consider that in all my travels, in almost every country I visited and lived in, people would argue over, what they considered to be, the honour of offering me a place to sleep and food to eat (even if they didn't have enough themselves). Now think about your own country and do you really think that people would do the same in either the US or the UK? Quite the contrary, we treat non-residents as pariahs and distrust them, even hating them in most cases. Which do you really think is the better society?

If everyone was satisfied with the "way things are" there would never be any improvement in life, and we would all still live in caves and hunt. The people who dislike the America is are the very ones we need the most, because as they point out the flaws, we can continue to improve. The real problem is the ones who don't like the way things are and yet can only complain, and otherwise sit back and let someone else do all the work of changing it.

Nazi germany was determined to expel those who disagreed with them. What did the world get out of that?
