I know i wouldn't... I don't want the NSA spying on me. --------------EDIT---------------- The NSA helped Microsoft "Secure" Vista. While they were doing that they must have Created a "Backdoor" in the system. They EVEN admitted that they made UNAUTHORIZED CHANGES in the code. The NSA has a long history of "requesting" that large communications companies provide them with backdoors. I would be surprised if the NSA *didn't* request such a backdoor in Vista. That's not paranoia, it's just common sense. I switched to Linux two months ago, and i'm glad i did. I don't want the NSA phoning me and saying "Yeah we put a backdoor in Vista so we can access your files anywhere in the world any time we want. We're the NSA. Do you have a problem with that....terrorist?"

I would, if it was installed for free too. Installing OS's is a pain.
-
No bloody way- every upgrade I have ever got for this computer has been worse than it's predecessor
-
Nope, had the chance they'll be a lot of bugs in it the first year.
-
I would totally upgrade for free.
-
Seeing as how I am a Mac user, Definitely not. :)

I would indeed accept a free copy of Vista, unless it was the Home Basic edition. That version is just a complete waste because it's missing so much stuff. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and learn Vista sooner or later because my clients will be using it sooner or later and I can't help them if I don't know it.

As I would pay for it, certainly I would switch for free!
-
Yes if it was for free. Windows XP is so full of security flaws. vista is meant to be better. But its still windows..... But I think Windows XP was way betterthan its predecessors so hopefully Vista will continue that trend. I run Windows and Solaris. Solaris is way more stable, secure, faster, but I cant play my games in it. So I still have to use Windows....
-
Yes.
-
I'd only accept a 'pirate' copy.

Yes. I have been playing with a Beta version of Vista Ultimate for a week or so now. I couldn't run it on my home PC without swapping out pretty much all of my current hardware, but Vista is pretty snazzy. There are lots of bells and whistles that are unnecessary, but then again, it's a Microsoft product - and we could do with a little break from the rather boring status quo. Vista runs absolutely flawlessly with the correct hardware, and looks good doing it, too. It makes XP look like 3.1, IMHO. So, long story short, if someone offered to buy me a new motherboard AND give me free Vista, then yeah...I'd upgrade in a heartbeat. :-)
-
Nope, even if it is free it will need several upgrades in my PC which will cost too much.

Free=I TAKE!!!

Not on your life, unless I wanted another coaster or decided to install it on an experimental box. Doubtful in either case, because I have enough coasters and I don't have a spare box that meets the minimum requirements to run Aero. There's no way I'd install it on my primary box. There have just been too many reports of vista's short comings in Beta and pre release. A good example is that unless you run MacAfee or AVG (free soon to be discontinued), you're out of luck for a virus scanner. You'll have to buy a new version. Only those two will currently work with Vista. Cisco's VPN software, if you're in business...won't run either. We're talking big bucks already, not to mention the myriad of other older programs. On the hardware side, it's just not sensible to upgrade to vista unless you also plan on revamping your Pc. Most off the shelf Pc's out there came with 512 megs of ram. You need a gig to run aero, not to mention that if you have a 64 meg vid card...you'll be doling out money to upgrade that to a minimum 128 meg for aero. If you don't have all that, Vista will just revert to "old style" win xp, visually. I, personally, wouldn't bother owning it when it comes out even for free. Why potentially mess up a perfectly fine running PC with MS's notorious ability to mess it up with 1st generation OS's? I'll wait for the first service pack to come out first.

If you gave me the premium, upgraded my box (especially the graphics), and removed the DRM, I might switch to Vista. Might.
-
I would take it and resell it on eBay, but it wouldn't touch my hard drive just yet, not until all the bugs are worked out.
-
i would if it iz Windows Vista Ultimate
-
Yes, but it is not that easy. Even if you get the free software, about 80% of PC's running right now do not qualify for Vista. You need at least 1024 of memory. I don't qualify at this moment...
-
Only if given another PC that would meet it's requirements; my graphics aren't up to snuff. Then I would give that PC to my wife and continue running my own XP Pro/SuSE box and end the problems we have sharing.

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 9400 with Vista Ultimate pre-installed. In relationship to when XP first came out, the first release of Vista is miles ahead with only minor glitches to date and I've enjoyed the extra features. I have two older computers that I would not upgrade (even if it was free) and don't recommend upgrading unless you have a rig that's fully capable or you want to spend the time updating drivers, memory, etc.

If it was for free I would, but I wouldn't pay for it. I'm happy with Windows XP.
