  • Not in the eyes of mine.
  • In the eyes of the Church , I think that is a different thing
  • How the hell would we know. He's your god ask him yourself. Personally mine don't give a rat's ass. He says that marriage and divorce are inventions of man not his.
  • 10 From there he rose and came to the frontiers of Ju·de′a and across the Jordan, and again crowds came together to him, and as he was accustomed to do he again went teaching them. 2 Pharisees now approached and, to put him to the test, began questioning him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife. 3 In answer he said to them: “What did Moses command YOU?” 4 They said: “Moses allowed the writing of a certificate of dismissal and divorcing [her].” 5 But Jesus said to them: “Out of regard for YOUR hardheartedness he wrote YOU this commandment. 6 However, from [the] beginning of creation ‘He made them male and female. 7 On this account a man will leave his father and mother, 8 and the two will be one flesh’; so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God yoked together let no man put apart.” 10 When again in the house the disciples began to question him concerning this. 11 And he said to them: “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and if ever a woman, after divorcing her husband, marries another, she commits adultery.” Mark 10:1-12 3 And Pharisees came up to him, intent on tempting him and saying: “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on every sort of ground?” 4 In reply he said: “Did YOU not read that he who created them from [the] beginning made them male and female 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh’? 6 So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together let no man put apart.” 7 They said to him: “Why, then, did Moses prescribe giving a certificate of dismissal and divorcing her?” 8 He said to them: “Moses, out of regard for YOUR hardheartedness, made the concession to YOU of divorcing YOUR wives, but such has not been the case from [the] beginning. 9 I say to YOU that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery.” Matthew 19:3-9
  • Those verses that Sheriff quoted are pretty standard on the subject. Another verse to remember is Malachi 2:16 "For I hate divorce, says the Lord." To summarize, according to the bible, divorce is a sin unless someone in the marriage has committed adultery. Then you are free to divorce. I think is it important to comment on why God takes marriage and divorce so seriously ("I hate divorce" is pretty serious language). According to the bible, marriage is an earthly representation of the closeness and intimacy that we experience with God today and eventually will in heaven one day unhindered by our sin. (That's also why the intimacy of sex is supposed to be reserved for marriage only). So a divorce in not only a breaking of an earthly relationship with earthly consequences (pain, children, etc.), it is a representative breaking of our closeness with God. That's why adultery is considered the only acceptable reason for divorce, because its a direct assault on the intimacy and closeness of marriage, God's earthly representation of our relationship with him. Hope this helps.
  • This where I'd normally but in and point out that god doesn't exist anyway, therefore you should consult your own sense of morality, but that would spawn another religious debate and frankly I don't have the energy at the moment. So we'll just go with "sometimes you don't have a choice".
