Yes, you have some rights as defined by state and federal labor laws. To find out what those rights are, you can visit http://www.dol.gov/ Because this is a governmental site, be prepared to 'wade' through a lot of 'stuff' to find the answers specific to your problems. I would suggest going to the 'FAQs' page ( http://www.dol.gov/dolfaq/dolfaqlawsandregs.asp ), and be sure to check out your local state government's home page, where by searching you can find your state's department of labor. In your Web searchs, you will want to use that phrase "Department of Labor", looking at .gov and .org sites. You have rights, and employers often abuse those rights because they know most employees will accept whatever they are given or told to do, even if it breaks labor law. They *depend* upon people's laziness to keep the employees ignorant of their rights -- and I've seen many companies, including large ones, break labor law and get by with it because the employees never bothered to find out what their rights were.
