What engine would I use to turn a stock 83 Honda Civic Hatchback into a rice burner?

By "rice burner" you mean? A quick Honda? None of the newer engines will fit into the 2g Civic without custom motor mounts, not a single aftermarket company makes swap mounts for that car that I know of. If I had my choice I would swap in a B18. Even then you'll have to redo all the engine wiring and set up a totally custom suspension. You're best bet to making it fast would be to build the build up the bottom end on your original engine and bolt on a turbocharger. The 3g Civic ('84-'88) has more aftermarket parts and swap mounts but doesn't look as good IMHO.

"Rice burner" is a generic term that refers to Asian vehicles. A honda already is a rice burner.
