  • She'll get the court marshall's sentence one to 5 yrs.
  • Women have fought for equal rights as men for years...I would give her the same punishment as is given to a man who does the same thing. Rules are rules and equal is equal.
  • She should be shot for desertion. The same as anyone else who skipped out on the commitments that they made to serve their country when their country needed them. It's nothing less than cowardice in the face of the enemy. In reality, she'll probably only end up with a dishonorable discharge and reduce in pay and rank. It's the politically correct way to handle things now.
  • I would give her the same punishment a man would receive. Although, I guess, living in Canada is punishment enough. :-) j/k
  • According to the laws already in place, it is punishable by death, though that is a little extreme. I wouldn't want to go to Iraq either, but I would go because I signed up with my own hand. She should be jailed with some fines also.
  • Desertion is a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Article 85. Article 85(c) states: "(c) Any person found guilty of desertion or attempt to desert shall be punished, if the offense is committed in time of war, by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct, but if the desertion or attempt to desert occurs at any other time, by such punishment, other than death, as a court-martial may direct." The deserter *cannot* be given the death penalty in this instance since the US Congress did not declare a state of war with anyone. She can get whatever penalty the court-martial assigns that survives the appeal process. If the court-martial gives her 20 years in the Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, then she gets to spend 20 years in Basic Training Red Phase. She took the oath and Uncle Sugar's coin, knowing full well that she would be told to go do something that she did not like or want to do. The Army is not a college-bound program. The Army is not the Job Corps. The Army is the diplomatic tool of the US Government, used to deter aggression against US interests or to encourage submission to US desires. You join the Army to go out to either help those in trouble (medical, civil affairs) or to kill people and break things (combat arms, combat support, combat service support).
