You're reading If using God's name in vain is a curse, and saying Hell is cussing, what if you are an atheist? If you don't believe in God or Hell, is it still cursing/cussing to use those words?

But is using God's name in vain a curse because the bible says so, or because society says so?

So if you do not believe in the Bible, even if society frowns at you for it, it is not cursing?
by Keysha on January 9th, 2009
It is a curse... whether you believe it or not, speaking against God is sin... but if you don't believe in God, the only difference is that you don't bother about it or accept that its a wrong thing to do.
Society says so just because they believe so. And as a social animal, the society tries to impart you things that they believe. Just because you don't believe doesn't make it not a curse to use God's name in vain.
