It SEEMS that recycling and conservation is primarily an interest of the Liberal left? Doesn't the right wing enjoy and take pride in a clean country too? Don't they feel an obligation to treasure the gift God has given? Why not a more public stand?

I think it's really more a dichotomy between idealism and realism, with these two ideologies having become attached to the left and right sides, respectively, of the political spectrum.

The core environmentalism movement is concerned with advocating policies aimed at preventing environmental damage, with little regard for the economic or social conequences of these policies.  It's notable that a great deal of unabashed hypocrisy exists among the more prominent leaders of this philosophy.  For example, Algore flying around the country in a small private jet, to spread the word about how we all need to make sacrifices to fight “global warming”; if he really cared, he'd use a means of transport that produced less of the very greenhouse gasses that he tells us we need to cut back on.

It would certainly be unfair to accuse conservatives of being in favor of global warming, pollution, destruction of the ozone layer, or other alleged environmental damage.  I would say that the conservative position on such matters is based on seeking a realistic balance between environmental concerns; against economic considerations, our ability to benefit from advancing technology, our ability to feed, house, and otherwise meet the needs of our growing population, and our overall quality of life.

You are correct - recycling and environmental issues do seem to be on the minds of liberals a lot more than conservatives. Everyone has a different agenda. However, I don't think that it's because the conservative right doesn't care about the environment; I think that there are issues that matter more to them. And unfortunately, some of those issues do conflict with conservation efforts. Both sides have an idea about what is right for the world and its inhabitants, but they are just very different viewpoints.
