They enjoy being authority figures. That's the main reason why a lot of them become cops in the first place.

Because most suspects are a threat to their safety, and refuse to comply. Imagine if 90% of the people you meet each day are a threat to your life, or are simply rude and disrespectful to you. Do you think you would have a cheery outlook in life?

They may talk to you like a parent because they believe you have done something wrong. They enforce the law, they are tought to be strict. Of the few run-ins i have had with police, they are great people. If you give them attitude and refuse to co-operate, they will treat you how you treat them. Just like anyone really.

ppl who deal in a profession that mostly has contact with the underside of society start expecting everyone to act that way. Its a danger of many professions. But saying most are mean, that is pre-judging them the same way you say they are pre-judging you.

It's not all of them. It's just the ones who are way insecure with small egos (or oversized goes) who're trying to overcompensate. Sadly, the ones with the smallest egos are the ones who make the headlines. You rarely hear about the ones who do genuinely good things for people.

Cops hate it when an adult acts like a immature kid.

Usually it is the young (new) policemen who are mean. They are angry because their job can be very aggravating seeing people make the same mistakes over and over. They talk down to you like a parent maybe because they are thinking you need one or yours may not be tough enough?
