By that I assume you mean finding out if someone is actually online, but have their privacy set to "appear offline". Simple. You don't, at least not using messenger. You could possibly bounce a ping using any program capabale of sending them if you know their IP, but even that won't tell you if they're on messenger, just if their computer is actually online.

go to http://www.msnblockchecker.info/ and write the id@hotmail.com, presto you will see if the person is offline or just invisible (or hiding)...hope this works....

The point is that they do not want to be detected, you can always message them and see if they answer. Hopefully i helped you.
