  • I quit 13 years ago after smoking for 25...if I can do it anyone can.
  • Been a couple of years now. I was pregnant so I couldn't use any of the patches or gum or what not. I chewed on bell peppers. Their crunch satisfied the mental cravings and the trace amounts of natural nicotine in them helped with the physical cravings.
  • I quit on New Years day. I have been eating like a freaken slob. Today I finally feel like I am getting used to not smoking and don't feel like eating so much. I am staying the hell away from all my smoking friends.Drinking plenty of water. Not drinking any booze, not going on the porch where I usually smoke. Washed all my smokey jackets. Lots of nice smelling creams and perfume. Just take it one minute at a time. If I think about not smoking forever, that is really hard, but when I think about not doing it one day at a time it is easier. Good Luck!!!!!!!!

  • I quit three years ago. I havent had one since and I hate the smell. I will never smoke again. I used this www.attentionsmokers.com Maybe there is something similar near you.
  • Im one of those odd few that can quit anytime I want and take it or leave it. If I want one, I have one and then I can go for days without... I have gone for years without. But I actually did smoke 2 packs a day for many years for the usual reason. To keep the weight gain in control because I do gain a few when I quit. My suggestion is to ween the brain off the nicotine little by little by following a timed, graduated plan. Time your pack and lessen the time between them as you go over a three week period to less and less and more and more time between them. It is the only thing that works, but it is hard as drama and bullsh*t tends to make you want to cheat and everyone knows there is always an over abundence of that whenever you try.
  • I haven't had one for just over 5 days now... I wasn't a big smoker, mostly when I drink. I don't feel like one but feel fidgety, not sleeping (it's 3am)and eating late and lots, but as I have time off work it's okay. I am also taking an anti-anxiety pill that is supposed to assist. I don't feel like a cigarette but I feel like something is missing and I fill that feeling with chocolate or moreso cups of tea as this process occupies me for a few minutes. I intend to try more exercise to help. Maybe even acupuncture. THe biggest thing for me is not drinking as often this is the only time I smoke, so giving up cigs for me means giving up booze for some time... can't actually forsee drinking without smoking at all, so will have to avoid it until that changes, good luck :) PS the stats show only 3% give up cold turkey and I have tried this also to no avail, so seek some additional support if you're serious and if you fall off the wagon don't worry, keep trying.
  • I quit last Feb. after 25 years. What helped me was accepting that I would feel like crap for a while, commit lozenges for when I felt REALLY bad, and being *pissed off* like you wouldn't believe that these danged things were running my life. Good luck!
  • I quit 4 years ago after smoking for about 12 years. I used sugar free lollipops to help keep my hands occupied and a hell of a lotr of stubborness and willpower
  • 20 plus smoking, 12+ since I quit and never looked back. Learn to and practice deep breathing. The first time I tried I couldn't do 10 in a row. Deep breath into your chest and do it slow so as not to hyperventilate and make them full complete gentle inhales and semi forceful exhales. You may experience discomfort but remember that is good as it will imprint just how bad in shape your lungs have become. Find other oral substitutes such as gum, sunflower seeds, sucking your thumb something to keep your mouth occupied instead of ciggy butts. Go a day or two and pull out some old clothes and inhale the wonderful aroma of the ashtray you once were. Good luck.
  • I haven't had a smoke for 11 years, Before I quit I smoked for 23 years. I deciced it was time to quit so some day I would see my children have my Grandkids. I used ZYBAN it worked great for me, but there is still some thing called willpower that needs to be put in play!!
  • I quit New Years of '08 (so just over a year ago) after smoking for 6 years. I used the patch and gum (even though you're not supposed to use both). I only used the gum about 5-6 times a day for the first week, then I stopped using everything all together. Sunflower seeds and suckers were a big help. Also exercising was a big motivator. I started running the day I quit, so when I got home from work and was craving a smoke, I would get out and run. Another key is NO CHEATING!! Just one drag off of a cigarette can undo weeks or even months of no smoking. Take each day one at a time. Don't think about forever, just the next day. And finally, the main ingrediant: You have to want to quit 100% more than anything! If you really want to be smoke-free, than you can do it. Good luck!
