If I had to lay odds on it, I would say it will probably be a Hispanic. There is a pretty good chance the democratic nomination will go to either a black man or a woman. However I think if the Republicans nominate McCain then McCain will clean both of their clocks. Hilary can't run from her divisiveness. Obama can't run from his voting record. Giuliani can't win the republican nomination.

A woman or an African American.

Most likely an African American (Barack Obama). I think he has the best chande of winning the democratic nomination, but I completely agree with Valparaiso when he says that McCain will be the nest president. If McCain doesn't do a good job in his first term, then I think that Obama, or Possibly even Gore--a longshot---would beat him out in 2012. I dont think Hillary Clinton has a chance at all.

I'd say first a woman... maybe even an african american woman. Then a either an african american or latino/hispanic next. An asian will probably be the final one to break through the race / gender barrier. I am not saying I agree or disagree with the order of these... it's purely a guess. My crystal ball is in the shop.

I have to agree with Val, a Hispanic simply because it is the fastest growing population. Soon our country will be a minority majority population. All that being said, kudos to the one elected whether it be a woman, black, Hispanic, Asian... or a combination of all those! But, with all the freaks out there, they better have very high security. But good luck to whomever it is that breaks the old white guy barrier!

G'day BobSaccamano, Thank you for your question. My money would be on a woman followed by an African-American. Hilary Clinton is currently the frontrunner in the Democratic hopefuls and Barack Obama is seen as serious candidate. Al Sharpton has also expressed interest but he would be at long odds. There are no minorities in the Republicans. Down the track, there are more women and African-Americans in a position where they might be in a position down the track to run. Hispanics are the fastest growing cultural minority and the largest now but have not been politically active long enough to have a prospective candidate. I would forecast that we would be likely to see an Hispanic President within 50 years. Asian-Americans are a smaller group than the others and not politically active. However, a candidate could come from their ranks if good enough. I certainly hope it’s a European/African-American named Barack Obama. I didn’t vote for him, but I’d still hate to see anything happen to him before he can even take office. :-(
