Well that teacher is clearly crazy, there are no spirits in those cards. Christianity does teach that you 'shouldn't worship or deal with other gods'. I suppose when you really believe in spirits AND Christianity, then following Christianity would mean to stop doing this stuff. If you just do it for fun the don't worry.

I think the teacher is 100 percent right in what he said but 100 percent wrong and way out of line for trying to take them away from you. You are not his child or his wife, you should be allowed to entertain yourself in any way that doesn't cause a disturbance to others.

Ah fear and loathing - that's what teachers are there to impart!

the Bible does not explicitly condemn all forms of divination. even king Solomon consulted soothsayers. i think your teacher does not really understand what tarot cards are, but i also think that you should not have brought them to school. i see from your profile that you are Wiccan, so you weren't really keeping your church separate from your state. you have every right to practice and/or preach (educate), as Christians enjoy doing, but not at school. your teacher would have been in the right had he pointed out that fact, but instead it seems he was also not separating his church from state.

Someone said that the cards violate the doctrine of Church-State separation. I disagree. Tarot is not an intrinsic part of the Wiccan religion. I *did* take my tarot deck to high school. However, I was discreet with it and this was over 40 years ago; before some people started seeing demons and Satan around every corner. Tarot is not bound to any religion and the earliest tarot designs (and many later ones) incorporate Christian symbolism. There *are* Christians who use tarot. I believe that as long as you weren't trying to force your beliefs on anyone else, you were in the right and the teacher was in the wrong. HE was the one violating Church-State separation if anyone was. He's also a bloody idiot for saying what he did.

Tarot is not a part of any religion. I think the teacher's response was less than helpful and misinformed.

I think that unless you are psychically gifted, you are probably wasting your time with tarot cards. Those who DO have these kind of gifts can use just about any tool to channel their gifts. I practice reading tea leaves. Tarot just has too much memorization for me when there are simpler and less elaborate tools that offer the same results. Oh, and I'm a Christian. Prophecy is a gift from God.

I started studing cartomancy, I'm sure you know they are regular playing cards. So I acted like I was playing a form of solitaire and was able to do readings anytime, anywhere and noone around me was aware of what I was checking on.

i did a speach on tarot cards in college(got an A also)tarot cards originated form the catholic church, who found the idea of divination from the gypsies. i personally oracle cards and runes (no diference than throwing LOTS in the bible). Its not a Christians DUTY to Judge what other people believe, and most people would consider cards evil only because they dont understand how they work.......
