Do you like camping? ... Try Central Park ... I'm a country boy from OZ and I spent 8 weeks in NYC on my last visit to the US, apart from the art galleries I spend most of my time back with the trees where it wasn't so humid or congested. I think a visit prior to a move is always a good idea, as what is good or suits others may not be good for you or suit your style of living. Eitherway, goodluck with the move.

Staten Island. Its a 20 minite ferry ride to NYC but not as congestive...

i would say manhattan even tho it is a little pricey its a great place...live away from the tourist attractions tho maybe somewhere in upper manhattan near central park west. but it really depends on what your looking for. apartment townhome big or small check out some of the realestate web pages because in new york you can buy or rent apartments and they do get expensive it would be a good idea to visit new york a few times before you make up your mind. When doing research the easiest way is to start at google. I WANNA LIVE THERE TOOO!!! good luck

It depends. Are you gay? If so the West Village or Chelsea is "where the boys are". If not the Upper West Side is really cool (although a little pricy). The Upper East side is to snotty (think Martha Stewart on every corner). Murray Hill (east side from about 24th St to about 38th) is affordable and relaxed.
