  • The doctor?
  • They say you shou;d cut toenails straight across to prevent that. Home remedy? Soak in salt water if there is any infection, polysporin, and leave it alone! Don't pick and play with it. You may still have to see the DR.
  • i would suggest going to the dr. the only other way i know that people have done it is by cutting it out themselves. and its really gross and painful and alot of times it gets infected. my friends actual whole toenail came off because it got infected. so best suggestion again... go to the dr and have them take care of it.
  • Take dental floss and work it between the toenail and toe. leave it there until the nail has grown out beyond the edge of the skin. (That is what the doctor will do), and if it is REALLY infected they may need to remove the half or whole toenail.
  • As someone said, always cut your toenails straight across, this trains them to grow in the correct direction and will prevent most ingrown toenails. For ones that you already have: if it's not too deep you can use a file to lift it out of the skin. It will be painful, and you should only attempt it if it's a minor/new ingrown toenail. If it's deep your best bet is to see a doctor / podiatrist. A soak in warm/hot water and epsom salt may relieve the pain and swelling, but won't cure the ingrown toenail.
  • Everyone who attempts to try to cut it out themselves always fails so if it's deep in there, go to a podiatrist and have them take it out for you. He/She will either take a wedge or a small sliver of nail to relieve the pressure and the pain.
  • a shot of Jack, a pair of size 4 vise grips and a ball peen hammer
